......Anybody have sharks?.......

bamboos, banded cat sharks, epaulettes, and wobeys are all in the trade. they are pretty sedentary animals, but still eventually get large (~36" and 8' for the wobeygongs).

Are you hoping to have them in a reef? I tried several years back with bamboo (both banded, and spotted), and Epaulette sharks .They were very destructive and not at all suited for a reef. (they ate everything [LPS corals, tubeworms, snails] that was even remotely edible)As well as knocked over the rockwork sometimes while feeding. After that (when they got tooo big and luckily I found a home for them) I tried the marbled cat sharks, and though thet were way better mannered they were still quite destructive. IME, IMO definitely FOWLR material.

My plans are FOWLR and some grass's. I am hoping to find somebody that can get any small brown smooth hounds, chain catsharks, short tail nurses, cobbler or wards wobbegongs and leopard sharks.

How large is "large enough"? I used to have a pair of leopards and could chime in if you're willing to give a little more info...

I know how large my tank needs to be allready and I don't need another tank discussion, but thanx. How long ago did you have them and can you get more?

To be honest, sharks should truly not be in hobby of keeping as pets. Through research and in depth discussions with leaders in the field of Chondrichthyes and specifically Elasmobranchii, they are not suitable to live at home aquariums as USUAL homes cannot house a 1,000 gallon tank. That is why we have them at public aquariums.

They are in the hobby, but they shouldn't be. We do not know enough about their natural habits to provide them with the best care that they need.

Through this hobby we already affect the marine ecosystem enough, but to take out a high level consumer from its complex habitat and attempt to keep it in your house to... feed... to look at? And what happens when it does reach 8'? I guarantee you that no aquariums will take it and being in Arizona, where will you eventually release it?

They are beautiful creatures that should be left in the ocean, like many fish in this hobby!

(I know I am probably speaking to a crowd that doesn't want to hear this, but think about the impact you are making when buying a SHARK! its not a dog...)

You dont know me or my situation. The tank or what you think about sharks is not a concern. Dont get of topic people!

If your going to seriously have a tank that size to house sharks then wouldn't you already have some sense of what sharks there are in the market instead of asking a forum....Also sharks come in different sizes, so how can we suggest some if you can't even tell us what size tank you have?
:blown:

ROFL after finding out you're naturally a dick and you have a 550 gallon tank...No you will not have to spend a grand or two on a shark...you can only have a bamboo shark.

For someone that doesn't like to beat around the bush...

I think it is 450, and yeah, thats not really enough to do much in terms of sharks. If your thinking of something really cool like a black tip (which one of my LFS's has and I cant imagine anyone being able to house them long term) you need a 20ft tank that is 10-15ft deep and about 6 feet tall, which maybe 2 people in the country do. So, get yourself a bamboo, 1, and be done with it. And next time somebody asks you what size tank you have, dont get snippy, and rude, just tell them so they can make an educated response to your question. Or did you already try this in the aggressive and FO forum and get chased out when you told them?

Good words

@OP
I second the motion to post this in the aggressive/fish only forum, might get more/better feedback there.

Not being a dick, just asking a simple question. Drop what you guys are talking about and get back on topic. I never said I was going to keep one of the larger species for life. If It will get you from throwing another thread away then I have a 450 right now, which I know for fact that anything on my list will be good in it for 2 to 3 years and I will be building the largest tank I can in my new house which will be around 800 to 1500 depending on the species I can get.
