Anyone else getting the 7D?

I don't have one ordered yet but I'd sure like to. With a baby on the way I'd really like getting a camera that can do some video. Plus, the 8 frames a second is nice for wildlife.

A guy I work with just got his Friday, I didn't get to see it because I was busy but I'm going to test his out next week I hope.

I was just about to pull the plug on some pocket wizards to control my 580ex II off camera but the 7D can do that on it's own now, so while I'm sure it doesn't have the range of the PW it's probably got enough to do all I need.

Anyone else have one that can tell me how it does at high ISO?

Not getting one. It sounds like a nice crop camera. The flash control is implemented through the pop-up flash... doesn't sound great.

It may not be as good as a pocket wizard, but it's another piece of equipment I dont have to carry around and set up. Besides, I can dial down the oncamera flash and have it not do much besides a little fill light then have the off camera flash do the main lighting.

Some of the other features of the 7D seem pretty promising, I'm looking forward to testing out my friend's camera and see how it does.

I want one as a backup camera + faster shooting speed (for time lapses at 2fps etc...). Also for the additional video modes -> doing 720p @ 60 so that it can be played back at half speed is win

...alas, I probably won't get one until my 5dmarkii shutter dies and I start to go insane waiting for my camera to come back from repair.

I'm considering adding one as a backup body. There are times where I could use the extra reach.

I'm in the same boat Tremont is, I'd love to be able to do 60 fps and slow it down, although I was thinking of slowing it down 3x instead of just 2x, I think 20 fps would still be quite useable and would give some good results :)

I just cant see any reason why I would need to upgrade to a full frame camera yet, but I can justify upgrading to the 7D from my 50D.

That is a neat feature. I wonder if the 5d2 is capable of doing that via a firmware upgrade. The 7D is nice....but why not just spend a little more and get yourself a full frame 5D2? Especially if you're upgrading from a current crop-camera. I've got both a crop and a full frame and ever since i got the full frame, i haven't had a need to use my crop once. Its just collecting dust and adding extra weight to my bag.

If the 5D mark II would do 8 FPS, I'd possibly get it over the 7D. But it doesnt AND it costs another $1000 more than the 7D, to me at least that is a deal ruiner. There is nothing the 5D MkII does better than the 7D that I need. I was hoping it did more exposures in autobracketing but it doesnt do that either... another feature that would make me consider upgrading to something other than the 7D.

I'm not making money doing this photography thing, it's all just on a hobby budget and for me, the 7D is a lot easier price tag to swallow than the 5D MkII.

If I started getting paid for photography, I'd probably go full frame, but as it stands now I just dont see the point to it.

I noticed you're going from a 50D. Aside from the video capabilities of the 7D, is that really an upgrade? The 50D is a pretty darn nice camera even at high isos. I sure wouldn't mind having a 50D as a backup crop camera. I can't imagine that the 7D would be significantly better at high ISO than a 50D, if at all since the sensor sizes are exactly the same but the 7D has more pixels. Also, going from 6.3 to 8fps isn't much of a leap either IMO.

However, if you're getting it for the video, then it might be worth it just for that. Shooting HD video with an SLR under low light and with a fast lens is just amazing.

There is 1 thing that the 5D does that the 7D cannot compare to....that's shoot at full frame. If you've never shot with a FF body before then you don't know what you're missing out on.

I suppose it also depends on your lens collection. If you have alot of EF-S lenses, then it'll be hard to justify a switch to FF. But if you have some of the L-series Canon zooms (like a 17-40, 24-70, or 70-200) then you'll find that the focal ranges are simply perfect on a FF.

Then again...that's just me. I have both a crop and a FF and like Doug, the only time i could see myself pulling out my crop is if i need the extra reach. Other than that, its in my bag.

I am definitely getting the 7D to replace my 10D. I was considering a 5D for quite a while, but the extra expense, slower frame rate (it can make a big difference for me), and the lack of video capabilities have pretty much fully sold me on the 7D.

Full frame would sure be nice, but I think that the camera will be PLENTY good for what I want.

That's the main reason I'd be upgrading... I want to be able to get video and stills without having to carry around two pieces of equipment.

I only have one EF-S lens, my 10-22 and I could easily part with that and get the 17-40 or something along those lines, so that isnt really holding me back from full frame.

The 5D MkII only does 3 FPS right? I really put my 6 FPS to use sometimes with incoming fast moving eagles, I'd have to "downgrade" my FPS to 3 to get full frame.

It's mainly the $$$ though, if the 5D MkII was $1700 I'd upgrade to that instead of the 7D, but that extra $1000 is just a big hump to get over.
