Anyone else have a problem setting the white balance on their cameras under halides?

Really weird, I got this lovely new Sony Cybershot DCS-H1 5megapixel camera and it refuses to measure the white balance under the halide.

Funny thing is my ole trusty cheapy nikon coolpix 2500 2megapixel camera can do it with no problem whatsoever!

Any fix for this?

I have been using a white piece of photo stock printer paper to set the white balance. I have also tried coffee filters.
