Anyone ever have a Sohal?

I am looking at asking Santa for a Sohal tang. My rabbitfish and pearlscale died and I saw one at the Reef Shop and really liked it. I know they can be aggresive and I wanted to know if anyone had experience with them.

I had one in the last tank for 3 years, and he was great. He went through phases where sometimes he would eat only algea, and sometimes only frozen. All in all he was a great fish. I had other tangs with him, some were bigger. Be he was the predominent one. All the other fish gave him all the room he needed.

a 75g is on the small side for a sohal...they are strong swimmers and will become stressed in a smaller tank. That will result in ich outbreaks.

You can do it, sure.....but it may not be the most suitable tang for that size tank.

I have one right now. It is the meanest of the fish I keep with it. It routinely gives the other fish grief when they get into his area. The other fish include a Picasso Trigger, Coral Beauty, Majestic Angel, and a much larger Clown Trigger (He doesn't mess with the Clown Trigger often). He doesn't try to hurt them just chases them around a bit.

I made the mistake of trying to add a Naso Tang a few weeks ago. The Sohal went after the Naso with a passion. After 30 minutes I had to remove the Naso as it was beaten up badly. The Naso is doing much better now in another tank.

The Sohal Tang is a great fish, but they also grow pretty fast.

I'm planning on going to a larger tank in a year or so. Maybe I'll wait but they are such a great looking fish!

I speak from experience here: wait until you have the larger tank running to buy the fish. I bought a tang to go in my 225g cause I'd have it up and running in 6 months, it's now, well, I don't know how long now, but more than six months. At least it was a yellow tang and he's still small enough to be happy in the 45g. I should have that 225 going soon though. It's on the stand at least.
