I was reading on a forum about cleaner clams or cherry clams and I don't want to buy them online and I can't find them at the fisherore. Anybody ever heard of them? The forum on saltwaterfish.com says that the can be bout packed with ice at a grocery store or seafood stores and they would be alive. Is this true? Would you ask for them alive or does it not matter?

dont waste you money. these clams are touted as nitrate reducers but in fact they are nitrate producers.

but to answer your question these clams are just like the clams you get at the seafood market that you steam and eat with butter.

dont waste you money

I think I paid about $2 for 15 at the Asian market a few years back and 10 are still alive. Do they eat nitrates? I have no idea, but they are cool looking in the fuge. Well spent money IMHO

This is tempting to do.

My only fear is that there might be some nasty diseases/hitchikers on these guys...

Is this a legitimate concern?

I just bought 12 of the Cleaner Clams at a grocery store, they were all just three dollars! I placed each in a glass of my fish tank water and so far, nine out of twelve are alive. Once they open, they spit out all this waste. They are pretty neat.
