I am absolutely dieing to get this camera. I am just waiting until it has a little bit more customer experience before I decide to invest that much in a camera.

It's good that they finally came out with a full frame sensor. It's a shame that it's half the resolution of the Canon however.

Yeah, that bummed me out too. What also bothers me is that this camera is also heavier than the D200. And when I called and spoke to the Nikon "CIO" (chief innovation officer- what they called it) he had said this camera was going to be significantly heavier....anyway, not much you can do.

Well, I personally, still think Nikon is the best, and probably will for a very long time, or until something happens to the company.
I think they make very good quality cameras, that if one the right settings, will take some amazing photographs.
For a lot of people it is all about personal preference. Like, my dad was given a Nikon SLR when he graduated, (as a graduation present) and when it came time for him to go digital, he asked around for what other people are using, and found quite a few people with more than one of the Nikon DSLR's.

why are people still shooting nikon?

- Wonderfull Creative light system where a single on or off camera flash can control up to 3 series of flashs and control their specific contribution in the lighting of your frame.
-A MUCH better feel of non pro bodies. Go hold equivalent cameras from Nikon Canon Sony or others and you'll feel it. An entry level DSLR does not have to feel that cheap.
The pro bodies are all good, Still with a slight advantage for Nikon IMHO.
-Also Nikon has both small (D40 40x 50 80) and larger (D70 70s 200 and now 300)heavier bodies.Yes some people do prefer heavier bodies that balance better with heavier lenses. I like to add a vertival grip and 2 batteries to make the body heavier which gives stability and balance. Pro bodies will most always be heavier for all cameras.
-Much better quality non pro lenses including the kit lenses.
the Nikon kit lenses be it the 18-50 18-70 18-135 or 18-200VR (yes it comes a s kit lense with the D200) are a lot sharper than their Canon equivalents. Many people especially complain from the 18-50 Canon sharpness.
-Much more versatile lense collection especially non pro (18-50 18-70 18-135 18-200VR 55-200 VR 70-300VR some of these with sharpness comparable to pro lenses Just slower. lens built even for non pro is much better than non pro Canon lenses.
Variations of the same lense allowing you for a choice suited to your budget.
-Compatibility with very old Nikon lenses(not all but much more than others.Ok some will not focus on the D40 but it's a choice you decide to make if you buy a cheaper body.

I could go on for a lot more but I guess trying to convince you that Nikon is better or me that Canon or else is, is just a worthless discussion. Both are top notch.
Each will decide according to the advantages each brand brings according to his preferences or buget.

I don't think the D300 is full frame.

I'm looking forward to those D300 images as well! I'm so ready to upgrade my D200. Though since I'd want to keep both bodies I'm holding off a bit.
