Anyone have Blue Monti Cap?

I am looking for even just a little frag of Blue Monti cap just like the one shown in TOTM on the main page of RC right now.

Who's got some?

From what I know thats not a Blue Monti its a Blue Chalice. I have some.

It grows like a Monti but has different ridges and polyps

i know there is a diffrence i just cant see them, can you tell me what the diffrence is. hey ben if you frag the one you have give me a call. i was eyeing that up the last time i was there thinking man would he notice if i reach my hand in there and break me off a piece then you walked in the room.lol

I guess it's hard to see the difference in the far off shot, But once close they are night and day different. The Enchiniphora has bumps for mouths that are probably half the size of a dime and moths on montiporas are probaly the size of a pencil tip. Echno's have a smoother skin that can get a little puffy were as montipora's only get a furry look in the polyp and have a thin skin coating.
Hope that helps
Erik

Echinophora's are LPS, and M Capricornis is a SPS
Small polyps vs large polyp also is a way to tell the difference

That blue coral is Enchiniphora sp. A type of challice coral not montipora.
Erik
The Blue Chalice actually isn't a true chalice either.

It'a an Oxypora sp. and plates very similar to a Montipora Cap and grows rather rapidly as well.

You just have to watch how close you place it to neighbors, as it has relatively long sweeper tentacles and packs quite a punch if it manages to come into contact with another coral.

I got a piece off of Kevin (itZme) and it's definitely the same as the Tyree Steel Blue Chalice... but without the pedigree as far as I know. I never asked Kevin where it came from.

Here is a picture of my colony...

Thank You. Yep a lot of my "starter SPS" came from Kevin, and a good bit of it turned into some of the nicest pieces in my tank. :)

The one in the tank of the month isn't Oxypora sp either it has bigger mouths its Enchiniphora sp like he listed as.

I have to agree with Erik I went back and looked at the TOTM pictures and his descrition definitrly Echino

Eh... well whatever it is I have it ;)

Anyway, if you google it, it's cross listed as both... so someone is confused somewhere along the line. I've always heard it referred to as an Oxypora.

The only one I could find on the Reef Farmers website was an Oxypora. Couldn't find an Echino anywhere matching the description.

Regardless... nice piece, grows fast, doesn't play well with others. :)

T.J. Still have that green acro? My whole colony was lost with the power outage I had a few months back. I would pay for a small frag back. I gave it to a few guys so someone should still have it.

It's this one...

The one on top... all white now. You could use it in your calcium reactor :(

j/k... I'll bring you a piece to the meeting. :)

Sure do... It's about 7" across now. I thought you said it was being too aggressive in your tank. Trade me something cool for a chunk of it. :)
You get all the gnarly SPS

Do you have any pics of it...? I'd like to see how it is growing. If I remember correctly yours was growing in a cool pattern and wasn't just plating out.
