anyone have cleaner clams ?

I wanted to possibly buy a couple clams from the supermarket and just lay em in the sand, will they remove nitrates and is the safe??? and of course I am talking about the clams that are alive and in the water tanks,

I got one months ago and thought it had died. I saw some movement in my sand bed the other day and sure enough it was there, alive and kicking,e ven after being in the ice at the grocery store.

I don't really know if they help lower nitrates as some claim, but I only have one in a 80g system, so maybe there is only so much they can do.

I think I might try 2 of them out in my 72 gallon, I've got a DSB about 4-5 inchs in some spots.. They'd probably love that...

I think I am going to pick a couple up this week, I'll post back after I get them...

in the mean time if anyone else has them or had them, please chime in...
