Anyone have experience with H. breviceps?

I was wondering if anyone has experience keeping this guys? There isn't too much information on them available online...I was wondering how well they take frozen food from someones experience and how hardy they are in comparison to other species. I have experience keeping H. reidi's and was thinking of getting a pair of these...

They are similar to other species in most terms of care, they just need lower temps (around 65F). They are a bit smaller and will do well with a pair in a 20g or two pairs if filtration is good. IIRC the fry are pelagic, but I could be off on that.

When kept at the proper low temperature they are less susceptible to bacterial diseases.

CB brevies will eat frozen, WC will need to be trained.

If your a genetic scientist and intrested in seahorses there are some areas yet to be explored if you have the equipment. :D

Well, they aren't currently available in the US as I've been searching for quite some time. They need cold water - a chiller is a must for this species. They are CB in Australia, and when available... yes, they will eat frozen. Problem is, it takes A LOT of money to import seahorses and the demand for cold-water species isn't very high due to the expense of chillers. Most hobbyists would rather get species that would do well at 72F-74F which is attainable without a chiller in many parts of the country.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunatly I think it was a false hope in getting a pair...I saw them for sale at seahorsesource.com but they were sold out, I didn't realize they may never get them in :(

Thanks, I am a genetic scientist but I don't work on seahorses, they are just for fun :D
