Anyone have luck w/these bulbs?

I have tried about a dozen different "Cheaper" Halide bulbs.

9/10 times the outcome is the same.

Extremely short lifespan, burnout, poor quality in general.

Im personally sticking with quality bulbs from now on.

Reefkeeping is one of those hobbies where Cutting Corners, normally costs you more in the long run.

Ive found Ushio, and Aqualine bulbs to be great.

I have had good results with XM bulbs, tho they seem to be bluer than most people like, so I usually dont use too much blue supplemental lighting with them

Hope that helps. But dont just take my word for it, look around the site, im sure youll find more bulb reviews somewhere.

I have the Oddysea MH fixture from Aquatraders which I love. The 10K 250w DE stock bulb that came with it is VERY yellow. I swear it's like 2700K. The 15K is fairly new for the DE so I haven't heard anything about it.

Creade probably has it dead on for the problems with cheaper bulbs. Consistency just doesn't appear to be there yet.

Nothing truer than this statement. If you don't believe it now you will later.

I have had good results from Ushio (250wDE HQI). Had some issues with XM blowing out after about 6mos but it may have been a bad lot. After 3 replacements @ $100 bucks a pop I've stayed with Ushio and never looked back.

I believe alot of people had a problem with the Xm bulbs blowing out in the first run of bulbs that hit the market.

From what I can tell their quality control has improved since.

I had 2 bulbs pop instantly when I first tried them, they were replaced, and then lasted a long while after that.

I havent had any problems since then, though I know some people still shy away from them.
