I have finally got all my sps to stay alive in my tank. water parameters is controllable now, but the color is crap :). I got most of my sps from Joe2283, and they look spectacular in his tank. After being in my tank for a few weeks, the color is pretty much faded. Looking into adding amino acid to help with the color, was wondering if anyone local dose that? Please chime in guys, need some feedback.

i do. Zeovit AAHC. probably wasting my money. Have noticed no change in color. after i have almost stopped using it. color in sps involves so many variables that it is difficult to trouble shoot things easily. To summarize you need good parms, that do not fluctuate especially alk, low po4 and nitrates, good flow, good lighting. And that is just a start. Then comes the art : placing the coral in a location which meets its need of right combo of flow and lighting, having a mature tank, having the right ammt of nutrients in the tank (feeding enough but not too much) and last but not least PATIENCE. A coral from another tank especially a fresh cut frag could take months before it settles and acclimates in your tank, starts growing to some critical size and then the colors show up (varies from one sps to another). This is for me as well a learning process and what i have learnt in the last 8 months of having an SPS tank and i am still a newbie. Hopefully some experiences SPS keepers here can chime in. there is no quick way to get to the promissed land other than trial and error and a lot of reading. Also be careful as there is a lot of useless and wrong info that people will give you in the forums. sifting thru the info and keeping the good one is still a challenge for me. Now i only follow people who have shown to have success in the hobby for extended periods of time. You will learn a lot more by reading TOTM and taking notes as these people have demonstrated a certain level of success in this hobby. What i summarized is just my short experience in this hobby and i put this disclaimer !!

Not to divert from your primary question, if you want to try AA just be careful to start slow and get a feel for it as it can lead to an algae bloom in your tank if you go to town dosing the AA.

I have 250w DE 14k phoenix about 8-9 inch from the water. I hope I don't have redbug, haven't seen any. The color just turn pale or brown.

redbugs are super small and very hard to see!I dont think it your light.Redbugs make arcos lose color! And not getting polyp extention! Is it only your acros?do you have montis?

As far as polyp extension, they look like wooly mammoths....:) So if that's an indicator I doubt it then. I think he needs to just put them in my tank....hehehehehe

Vivek's answer is spot on. There are so many variables that can be taken into consideration. The main ones IMO are stability and time.

The more you touch your tank, the more you move stuff around... the farther back you set yourself IMO.

I purchased a bright blue acro frag from Reef Systems back when melev came to speak to the club. It went brown almost immediately upon placing it into my tank. Flow was good, lighting was good, params were good... etc. I tried moving it everywhere with no luck. I was pretty bummed out about it, gave up, wrote it off, and just left it be for the past few months. I was actually planning on giving it away once my new tank got here, when low and behold... a few weeks ago I noticed the color coming back. Now it's just about back to the color I purchased it at!

Only took it like 3 months! :rolleye1:
