Anyone keeping a harlequin tusk with clams?

I've had Aussie Tusks in reefs before with no problem but never with clams. I really want to add one but have a large maxima clam that I would hate to loose.

Please only answer If you have hands-on experience with Tusks. They are way misunderstood and dont want to hear no just because you've read they are not reef safe :)

Thanks!

I have a 7" Tusk in with 3 clams. He pays no attention to the clams or my big snails. Small snails were worked over pretty quickly.

I have a 3" pacific tusk for the last 6 months with 9 clams all types, and I never saw him show any interest.

None of my clams can see :lmao: No blindness issues with my tusk.

lol!

Here's the beauty I just snagged up on Diver's Den. He's 6". Let's hope he leaves my clam alone. LOVE THIS FISH!

Thanks everyone! seems very promising then!

Do you HT keepers have any tips for me? What do you think of the specimen I bought, should be here tomorrow

Feed a variety of meaty items. I feed shrimp, clams, scallops, squid, and krill. Mine also likes flakes and pellets.

What all have those of you that kept them in reef tanks had problems with? Just snails or other things, anemones, shrimp, etc.?

I have a juvenile tusk that has been in my tank for about 4 months. I don't have any living clams in the tank so I can't speak to how he'd do with them, but he happily eats clams on the half shell (along with just about any other foods). He's been banished to the fuge because he shredded my skunk cleaner shrimp and got in tussles with my longhorn cowfish and midas blenny. I posted up in the livestock trading forum to trade him out to somebody, so if you're interested in trying him out in your tank, you're more than welcome.

Tusk are great reef fish, i had one for some time till jus last weekend when i found him a new home... your clam should be jus fine with absolutely no worries... any small shrimp on the other hand... is a different ball game lol

but get him and enjoy him, they are amazing fish, and the most chill i have ever come across...

Tusk did great and ate shrimp within an hour in the tank... no one messed with him and he is not messing with anyone... it is so awesome to see this big fish swim the length of the tank!

Hi cakeman ... do you feed yours everyday? I feed nory and misys everyday but I think this guy will need bigger food.

He'll need bigger food, and what you quoted is a good list. He can eat cubes of mysis, but ime they don't go after small individual mysis. Mine also likes the 3mm NLS pellets. Feed at least daily.

Thanks Luk, I'll hve to get some bigger pellets, how about freeze-dried krill? Right now I am taking dinner shrimp and cubing it for him, will do the same with squid. My fat tangs are also eating that... guess they wont mind their new friend lol

I was trying to avoid ellets, I dont really feed dry food to keep Ph4 down.
