I have also posted this in my thread following up the installation of MH lights.
My tank got too warm today, 83 degrees. The leathers didn't open up, and some other things didn't look so good either. I know this isn't good day after day.
I have a chiller, a New Ocean, made by Universal Marine. I've had it for a long time, maybe 15 years or so. I think it has been working just fine, but it didn't keep up today. It's a 1/4 hp chiller. I opened up the chiller, and what I will call the back, the part with the finned coil was hot. It was a little dusty; could that cause big problems. I don't think it was anywhere close to being clogged. It is in a cabinet that was intentionally intended to be closed. I have air filters in the ends of it. This has never worked, so the doors are open. (It's in my basement)
OK, so the question here is should those coils be hot? Does that mean it's working or that it's not? Any way to test whether it needs to be charged? I don't even know if that's possible.
I have some fans that I'm putting into the hood, but I want to get the chiller right too.
If you know about refrigeration, I could use your help. Thanks so much. Jim
