It depends on the type of membrane.
The average membrane produces about what you're getting.
I've started seeing some "High efficiency" membranes advertised recently that claim a 1:1 ratio.

There is a lot more waste water than "good" water. I can fill my washing machine up twice while making one brute 32 gal trash of RO water. I am not sure how much water it takes for my washer, but its a large capacity one. But as far as your question goes, I would say yes. I seem to remember something about a 4 to 1 ratio. I just thought it was a lot to send down the drain, so I tried to find ways to use some of it..washing clothes, watering plants, etc HTH

I use the best the filter guys carry...so your saying the better ones are based on a 1:1 ratio

No, I'm just saying I've seen them advertised as such.
Whether they are actually "better" or not I can't say... less waste water, yes... better in the long run? Who knows?

its dependent on the membrane eficiency but i think avg is like 4-5 to 1

i could be wrong tho, ill go check mine later, its a filmtec membrane just replaced. 75 gpd.

Great in the garden

Great in the garden

If you have a garden or planting bed, you might consider using your waste water there... My trees and flowers love it! Rich in minerals, etc.
