Anyone live in the Carolina Forest area?

If you do, I need a small favor. I recently began switching my test kits over to Salifert. On my most recent one, ALK, I think I may have an bad test kit. I have been using API's for well over a year and it has always been around 8dkh. Well, when I moved to the salifert I am getting a reading of 17.6 dkh. This scares me.

So I would like to find out which one is right. If possible...

If not I can take some water to one of the stores, but I would rather test immediately out of the tank. I don't know the next time I will be heading up north.

Let me know if you can help please.

Thanks,

Kris

I live in Carolina Forest but I am having the same problem you are. I am not sure about my readings. I have a Red Sea Reef Lab kit but I think it's getting old. Does anyone know what company's test kits are the most reliable?

Hey everyone,

thanks for the responses. I think I am going to head up to Bruce's tonight with my test kit and some of my water and compare both with his.

Plus, I might want another coral.....:smokin: :smokin: :smokin:

Thanks,

Kris

hey stop by and check my tank out....i kow its vday, so ur prob with the wife. paul inspired me to get a huge reef tank just to prove him wrong lol. so i wanna go with my dream size tank...120 i think...the 4ft long by 3ft deep i think. im prob even going to pay bruce to check on it monthly.

but i will not take money out of my bank accound for this. so once my bike sells, 5000 will go towards a new tank, and everything. and the rest to my dog. i hope 5000 is enough for a tank that size....

I invested 3k in my 75 gallon to get it set up. I imagine you will spend around 5k to get a 120 going. A 120 would be nice, but Bruce checking on it monthly would not really do it any good unless it was a fish only. A full blown reef tank is going to take daily check-ups and maintenance. There is no way to get around that. I don't know anyone who has a successful reef tank that doesn't do something to their reef tank on a daily basis. Whether it is testing, top off, cleaning, feeding, dosing, etc. Yes, some of it can be automated, but it still takes daily work. I spend about 4-5 hours a week doing maintenance to my tank and I still think I could do more. If you are frustrated with your 90, I wouldn't upgrade to prove a point. You will just become more frustrated with it and waste money.

But if you are serious about it, buy Paul's. You can get everything for 3k. And it's ready to go. Just be ready to provide daily maintenance and the work needed for it. I would hate to see a tank like his go downhill if it wasn't being taken care of with the diligence that is needed.

HTH,

Kris

who knows, i just get angry when people call me out.....i do want a bigger tank, and i will prob do easier corals and a good amout of fish cause i like fish.

but like whats was his reasoning? was it moneywise? who knows, i like the nice looking tanks where my friends can come over and be amazed. corals dont do it for my friends.

my protein skimmer is fixed, the frustrating part is i cant fit the rocks i want in the tank....are you good at that? maybe u can stop by? ill buy u lunch or get u a 6pack man, something cause u are in the area.
