Anyone need cheato-free

Hi all,
I need to trim my refug back, so if there is anyone in need of some cheato you can have some for Free. I am located in the chicago heights area( south sub). If you are interested, please pm me, if there are no takers, I will just have to throw it out. \

What does cheato actually do?

Cheato grows in a refugium(safe place) and uses up excess nutrients in the tank.(Phosphate and Nitrate) It also host's all sorts of pods and other life that then can get cycled back in to the tank to become food.

So if I use canister filters, I can't use it right?

It needs to grow in a sump with a grow light.

Do a search for refugium, you should get a ton of hits.

I just put a clump in the main tank. Looks kinda nice in there. Hopefully it'll help lower my nitrates. The fish dont really pick on it much so far.

why would you put it in the main tank...isn't the whole reason for cheato in a fuge is to keep the algae out of the main tank...just wondering....i guess to each his own

Beacause my sump is filled with bio-balls. FO tank. No live rock. And thats the way I like it.
