Anyone out there using bacteria/carbon source?

Who is dosing bacteria/ carbon source??? For example Mb7/Biofuel, vodka sugar, vinegar or sum-thing else"¦ let's talk UNS in ABQ..

Cool don't think a lot of peep around here are doing this. how main gallons in your system? Do you dose every day and how much are you dosing? have you had any trouble with cyano? Hope you don't mind the questions but I think it would be nice to compare notes"¦..
 
It's the Elos 70, so on the order of 50-55gallons. I dose about 8 mL daily. No cyano at all. Have some hair algae, but it is starting to abate since I started dosing.
 
Wow. Yeah. Your hair algae should be gone pretty soon I would think. 8ml a day seems like a lot. The reason why I asked if you were having any cyano trouble is because usually after the 4th or 5th day I start dosing start to seeSICK some cyano. If I keep on dosing I get a full outbreak. I have done a little research and it could be that I just am not dosing enough. When I saw that you were doing 8ml a day I definitely confirmed that I am a woos. I think it is time for me to step up and dose with the big boys like you. I was doing 1 ml every day, but I think I am going to double it now. We should keep each other up to date on how things are going.
 
I haven't had any bio blooms, so I feel fine with my 8 mL. I started with 4 and moved up over time. I have a lot of coral and feed a fair bit. Need a good export :)
 
Bacteria use the carbons source along with N/P to reproduce, and you then skim out the bacteria. In short, an N+P export path when you lack it.
 
im too scared to dose anything, i dont have much in the way of corals yet and read up on the vodka dosing as a high nutrient export via skimming. in theory it sounds awesome that the sugars bond with the nutrients and allow the skimmer to export it out via collection cup. though i probably would end up getting my fish buzzed or worse, above the state legal limit so they couldnt drive home without killing anyone maybe if i got a nurse shark at least then they would be in good hands to have their stomachs pump if they got alcohol poisoned. roflmao
 
I need alot of education on the new up to date stuff since I have been out of the loop for over three years. Going up in six months
 
Wooowho the small patch of Cyano is breaking up thank god… still doing 3.5 ml of Mb7 daily, will start carbon source on Sunday…fingers crossed..thanks Gomer because of you I stepped up the dosing and think its working.
 
don't up it too fast or too much, or the DO will go down. If you get a bloom, that is bad. Aerate.
 
If you dose to much to fast you will get a bacterial bloom and it will cloud the water. If this happens be sure to aerate the water more. The bloom will use up as Gomer called it DO, I take that to be Dissolved Oxygen.

I dose 10ml of vodka a day in a 300gal. DT with a 55gal. sump. Real water volume is 285gal. after water displacement. It takes time but dosing does lower the nutrients.
