I need some phyto asap, the storm left me with out power for almost 2 days and my phyto crashed. I did manage to safe some rotifers and all of my baby percs are still kicking, but will need some phyto to feed rots. Any help would be very appreciated. I will plan to get to the meeting Sat morning never been to one, and I plan to join SEASL.

I can bring a 2 liter for you but ask Kathy first as I don't want to muscle in on her phyto business.

How much do you need, Joe? How did you save the babies? Mine is not doing too well at the moment, I need to refresh my cultures. I am glad Roy offered. If you need more, I can possibly stretch one.

Yes and it works great! Thanks for the tip on that! I make up about 12 bottles at a time with the water and bleach and then do the dechlorinator the day before fert and phyto. Since I only do 4 bottles every 1 to 1-1/2 weeks it lasts me awhile and gives plenty of time to kill bugs etc in the culture bottles. Some dark green stuff now too.

JoeBuckMaster - Welcome to SEASL!! I'm glad you found us and I look forward to meeting you on Saturday. :)

Kathy & Roy - Why do you use bleach?

To sanitize the bottles and the water for growing. Then add the dechlorinator and fertilizer before adding the phyto starter volume. I've done with and without doing that but so far (knock on wood) I haven't had a crash since doing the bleach. It seems the phyto is much darker and denser too so even when I wasn't crashing it may have been decreasing the production.

I don't crash. I do bleach.

Growing phyto depends in part on some measure of sterility. Chlorox will kill bacteria on both the bottles and the water at the same time. Dechlorinate, fertilize, and inoculate with live phyto, and it will grow without crashing(given light and air, of course). Dechlorinating is easy: a few drops of biosafe or sodium thiosulphate will do it.

Doc I needs some, I think a 2 liter would be ok if you can spare it,
kathy it was all with luck, I did get a generator that helped alot.
Can not wait to meet all you guys..

You could do the dechlorinator minutes or seconds before the fertilizer and innoculant. It works fast. Glad you are having success.

I need a new starter. Apparantly, they get old and stop growing as fast as they used to . After I get that started, I'll give you some to refresh your cultures, and between the 2 of us, we should be able to keep St. Louis supplied, as well as my clownfish's rotifers.

Kathy are you needing some right now for roitfers? I could probably spare a couple more bottles as I'm getting ready to harvest 4 more today.
