Anything new for the club?

Hello,

Looks like fall is just around the corner and i have seen many new names floating around C-sea's forum on RC.

What is going on with the local Forum, kinda slow?, C-sea's site?

Just wondering if anything is in the works:fish2:

Later

Hoping on getting the newsletter soon, Does anyone talk to Chris?

Any luck with the website amy? Any chances in a make over something more modern like the old site or like coras.

We should add the info about the columbus swap next month to the C-sea home page

Andy, I guess my take is it is the club's forum, so I basically take suggestions on makeovers from you guys if they're wanted, but you all are the traffic generators on it, so to speak. Just go at it on the forums there, to pick it up if you want more use of it. Yes, it's slow on there.

The newsletter should be coming out for September from what I understand, Chris sent an email on it the other day.

For the updates/modernization Erik, I have to upgrade the forum software, get a bunch of patches in and then work in the photo gallery stuff. Not sure what you mean by more modern like the old site. Give me examples so we're on the same page about what you're interested in. Ours is similar to CORA's in many ways, I can do more fun stuff with picture rotations, add more categories for posting, 'spark' it up, etc.. I've asked numerous times for photos from people of their tanks, their profiles, a lot of fun stuff, and there doesn't seem to be much interest, so hopefully it will pick up. I'd rather see it utilized more first before doing a ton of cosmetic stuff, but if there is real missing 'functionality', let me know for sure.

What is happening right now is Carole is updating the sponsor lists/links and getting logo's, and updating the LFS's which I'll then upload. (I corrected a few today).

Mike is working the current membership list. We do not have a flag in our site yet for who are and are not members, nor where people even live, so I have no idea who the new people on there are either. I want to discuss this at the next club meeting, I have some ideas (and actually concerns) about it.

Chuck is working on getting the info for the frag workshop, should be just a day or more now until we have more information on it.

We of course have Peter's position now open, don't know if anyone has responded to Carole with interest. There is a very tentative schedule for the year which has to be firmed up, and I imagine the new program chair will start working that hard when the position is filled.

The October garage sale is going to be FUN! We acquired tons of stuff from an old hobbiest/basement-seller kind of person, which will be available. The itemized list will be available in a couple weeks for you all to ponder over.

Don't know what else to tell you all at this point. As far as the site, I'm basically here to upload what members of the board put together in their jobs, and try to keep the site updated and creative, which requires all of you to participate too!! I do the updates when different members or board folks get them to me.

Also, this post, for instance, is an example of something that I would expect at our site, not RC, so there is still the issue of use of that site vs. this one.

Does this info help??

I think you are going to have a hard time getting people to utilize two forums for the same purpose that is catering to the same people. No one is going to want to post their questions, comments, etc in two places IMO. Everyone is used to posting here (since they are here anyway browsing all the other forums). Look at what little traffic CORA's forum gets on their own site compared to the traffic on the forum here. IMO, it will be a hard sell getting everyone to move. We kind of tried it once before in the past with the Ohio Reefers forum and it just kind of died out after a while, but the forum here on RC continues to go on. Just my $.02 :)

Yep, I agree, I've thought for a while now there is just no need for it. In the meantime, the forum will stay up if people want to use it, and I'll continue adding any people who register. Folks on the board may have ideas for what they might further want it used for.

Andy,

give Chuck or Carol a call (or myself) to explain the criticality of this right now. I have a serious injury so the majority of shoulder/arm/hand use is being reserved for my job. If they think it's an urgent issue, something can be worked out probably. Everything is functional right now as I've said. There is also more I am attending to for the club than a more modern look for the site at the moment, as have been the other board members.

Give one of us a call if you think it is that urgent like I said, since so many posts and replies continue about it. Otherwise, let the subject rest for a bit. I'll give actual information updates in the meantime as the board gets program/event and other pieces of their work to me. We're pulling together good stuff for the Sept and Oct meetings in the meantime.

thx!

I'm sure he didn't no there was a problem with the webmaster. I think many of us thought the site would look different. If you needed help I'm sure theres plenty of computer sauve people in C-sea that could help you. I'm pretty sure he just wants C-sea to be the best it can be.

Ok guys...I took a little time this afternoon and got the home page more spark'lin. Let me know if this is more of the direction you are looking for.

My 'intent' longer term has been to put something up like this: http://www.cmas-md.org/ with the portal front-end, the photo gallery upload, etc..

All these packages are sensitive to the hooks between each other. I have purchased the licenses (several months ago (my own $$ because I'd rather use club money for program speakers, and, threats of layoffs continue in my company so it gives me personally more skills to acquire, I have NOT minded doing that)).

-So, first off, the home page, is that more of what you're looking for in the meantime?
-I have not changed any formats of the other pages yet until I hear feedback
-We need to decide as a club what we want to do with our own forum..Paul C had a good point further up in the thread about 2 forums and the hassles of it.
-Do you want the home page strictly professional, or have some fun games added or things like that?
-Also, with the forums, I 'think' part of the confusion is how threads display...there is an option you can click for 'linear' so all those embedded links per thread do not clutter the posts.

The web pages themselves are pretty much no brainers..the links for the portal/gallery/forums are touchy and do take time to get that running without bugs.

thx!

btw, not to be so confusing, but you will see McBride rather than Van Sickle on most of my stuff going forward..still changing email links and such on here and our site.

What about a light blue backround? I think that links to games would be fine but others may not want that. Hope you feel better soon, Tim

PS I am working on getting that updated library list to you, there are a lot of books here! And maybe when we have a list we could have it made a sticky at the RC forum. Thanks, Tim

i dont understand why everyone is in such a tissy about this, all i asked was a simple question.

it is my thoughts that a well made virtual presence would be a great addition to the club

the site/forum combination would be a great way to attract new internet smart potential members, AND would be an optimal environment to exchange information

Quick update guys...Erik and I sat in front of the computer and went through different ideas together. Having a better focus point, a logical flow, format fixes, etc.. Because his monitor seems to have the most significant issues with formatting, I'll be having him test out new pages as the work is done. I'm booked for the weekend, so sit tight.

Thanks Erik, it made a lot of sense for us to go through it that way.
