Apatasia???!!

I just got a kenya tree today and notice a purple thing with tentacles close to it. I removed the whole rock from the water (it was really small) and ripped off the shriveled up head of it. Will this keep it away? I know they spread fast, but would it still spread if I removed it out of water?

Without a positive ID we cant tell you if its worth the risk to put it back in or not. If you wanna keep the kenya tree I would remove it fromt he rock and attatch to another. You can always let the small rock dry out, wash it and then put it back into your DT.

I wouldn't throw away a coral just because you might have aiptasia on the rock. Chances are you're going to get aiptasia introduced into your tank at some point. Unfortunately, if it is aiptasia, ripping it off isn't going to get rid of it. A small piece is always left behind that will grow back. Some kalk paste, Joe's Juice, Aiptasia-X, vinegar or boiling water is much more effective.

But as davewbush said, what you described doesn't sound like aiptasia at all.

Haha, I always thought it was purple, and the thing I saw was definitely purple. I guess I'll just keep an eye on where it was. I hope I didn't kill anything harmless
