Apex vs Reefkeeper

I am new to the hobby and would like a little advice. I am in the market for a tank controller. I see there are two main players with Apex and Reekeeper. There is a decent price difference between the two and as everyone else, would like to get the most for my money. Apex appears to be the king of the hill, but the reefkeeper products look good too.

I would like the forums input before I buy either. Especially if you have owned both units...pros and cons.

I am looking at the Apex "Classic" and the Reefkeeper Elite

I've used both And went with the apex in the end. I found reefkeeper to be a good basic controller which for me was good for Controlling temp and dosing pumps. But it was hard to use. The apex does more out of the box and with fusion is much easier to use. There nothing wrong with either one and either would be a good choice but in the end I should have waited to get the apex.

This pretty much sums it up. The Apex is probably a little more expensive but the ease of fusion and the ability to expand it makes it worth every penny in my opinion.

Thanks for you feedback. I was leaning toward an Apex and that's probably how I will go...

I own an Apex 2016. I have never had a ReefKeeper. But I will say this with regard to just general decision making. I have personally found that the features I don't think I need, and therefore don't pay for...become important to me shortly after I pay for the cheaper product.

After a history of paying twice (or more) for things, I pretty much just buy the top of the line product now (if I can afford it).

This has applied to everything from graphics cards to motorcycles...to aquarium controllers. Just my two cents.

I run a reefkeeper to power my whole system and I agree 100% with what was said above... The reefkeeper system is buggy and ive never had that problem with Neptune systems in the past. If i could go back i would start my system over with Apex.
