Appliance dolly To move 225g

In my previous thread I was looking for tip on moving a large tank. A couple of people suggested using and appliance dolly, and said that they really made the job that much easier.

In talking with others about the idea, they where concerned that placing the weight of the tank onto two metal rails was a bad idea. Granted they had no personal experience with using an appliance dolly, but there concerns seemed legitimate.

I figure that I could use a peice of 3/4 plywood to rest on the dolly then put the tank on the plywood to distribute the support of the rails over the full width of the glass?

Opinions and comments wanted.

Anbody had a bad or good experience with this?

buy one of those heavy styrofoam sheets from Home Depot to put on the dolly. I did this for a 180 and it worked out fine, equally distributing the weight and acting as acushion.

Did you use just a sheet of styrofoam or did you use a peic of plywood as well. My concern is that the styrofoam will not distribute the weight across the glass. In the end, I am probably worrying more than necessary, but thats just the way of things.

It was very thick styrofoam--pink in color. I did not use wood. Whether or not you use wood, I recommend there be a barrier between the wood/dolly and bottom of the tank.
