Wow.... The one big family tank is a beauty. Who's tank is that? Very nice shots yet again. I must buy a new camera.

Hehe.... Looks like we are going to have another close contest...

Also, we shouldn't link photographers to pics before the voting is over. :)

Public Announcement: As an expriment this month, we are going to try a vote-off because we have so many great entries that are neck and neck in this contest. At the close of this poll, the top 4 vote-getters will be posted in a second poll for a vote-off. The final winner of the vote-off will be declared April's photo of the month.

I just wanted to add that I had a very difficult time deciding which pic to pick. Please, if you don't happen to win this time, consider entering the photo again. I don't think we have any rules against that.

I think our timing may be off for a calendar - I don't think we'll have quite 12 winners in Nov/Dec. Some of these would be great to use if we need runner-ups.

Thanks for entering!

Yeah, I have plots and plans along those lines. I am thinking that I'd like to have the calendar ready for purchase at the November meeting. That probably means that the Octoberr POTM contest will be the last month to get in the 2007 COMAS Reef Shots calendar. So that, right there, leaves me able to toss a couple "Runner Up" pics in there.

Also, as much as I have tried, I have been unable to get full resolution pics of some of the entries. So there is a chance that more then one photo might end up being used on the picture page for a month in the calender.

Meaning.... If we have a pic win that I can only get a 800x600 or something copy of, most likely it will get paired with a runner-up during it's month.

So, in short, there will be plenty of chances to print some runner-ups. Or some editor's choices. :)

Any of that make any sense?

Makes sense to me. You should be able to stretch and adjust a 600x800 pic to fit a calendar without much degeneration on the photo. Might I suggest a contest of all the previous runner ups for Nov and/or Dec?

Also, FWIW, I have full res copies of my stuff at home. It's the whole broken computer thing that will be remedied in the upcoming months.

I did some test prints last week (with an extremely high quality photo printer). I printed the same picture out full page size after reducing it to the following resolutions:

   3008x2000 (original)
   1024x681 (1024x768)
   800x582 (800x600)
   640x426 (640x480)

Of course, the original was the highest quality print. I'd call the 1024x768 as somewhat passible. Below that, severe pixilation was obvious.

In short, I want to end up with a professional looking calender with clean printed pictures. So my thought here is.... Give the POTM participants / winners an incentive to submit original quality pics. Submitting an original quality print will greatly increase your chance of getting a full month's page in the calendar.

If I recall correctly, the poll ends one week from the start. That would be Sunday, April 16 @ around 5:50 PM. Based on her initial post date/time.

yes, i set the poll to run for 7 days. After this poll closes I will post another poll for a vote-off between the top 4 vote getters.
