aptasia in chaeto

Hi all, quick question. I received some Chaeto and placed it in my sump. I'm noticing glass anemones(Aiptasia) all over the chaeto(has been in my sump 3-4 weeks). I removed the chaeto and placed it in a 5g bucket with RO water and scraped the glass anemones(Aiptasia) off of the glass.

My question is how long will the glass anemones(Aiptasia) last in the RO Filled bucket?
I'm hoping I can save the chaeto.. It had good life as well, but it's not worth the risk to save at the cost of having Aiptasia.

Thanks all.

I'm not sure how long they can survive in RO water.. Not sure how long chaeto will either..

But its easy enough to simply remove all of the chaeto with aiptasia on it then whatever is left put it back in the tank.. In a little time its going to grow back to the same size again and then you trash/export more and the process repeats..

You can soak the chaeto in RO water in 4 hours, that will not hurt your chaeto (I used to do this). In this case, the aiptasia will die, IMO

They will last forever in any kind of water, fresh or salt, hot or cold.
They will outlive Keith Richards.

I pull big ones out of my sump chaeto ball to feed the Butterfly and Koran, they love 'em.

Have your butterfly and Koran ever considered visiting the Poconos?

That is the exact way I wound up with aptasia in my tank.

If it was that long before you noticed, they are in the system permanently until you do a total teardown and rebuild. I noticed after a few hours that they were on some cheato and I still have them in my system. Even with peppermint shrimp or a copperband there will be some in the sump or plumbing somewhere. The game now is controlling them. Personally I have had great success with peppermint shrimp keeping aptasia in check. results vary, but it has worked well for me.
