aptasia

I picked up some rock from someone locally that had a few corals on each. when I got home I put it in my tank & came back the next day to check to see if any of the corals had opened up. I came back & saw 5 small aptasia growing on the rocks. I was thinking... crap what am I gonna do... I'd never had to worry about it. then I watched my blue line puffer spot one & go chew it up. by the next day they were all gone... havent seen once since. wonder if they would come back if I ever got rid of him.

I have found if you "float" the kalk paste onto the aptasia and they close around it and then explode, that while a lot of fun to watch they will come back. If you either use a more dilute solution, or liquid calcium or liquid pH buffer and put a needle on the syringe and stab the sucker right in the mouth and inject directly into the body and down to the base, they don't. Obviously they are easier to inject that way when somewhat larger, and depending on where they are in a rock it can be a real pain to be able to nail them. Sometime depending on the angle you may have to bend the needle and actually stab at an upward angle to get to the base which is usually down in a hole in the rock.

not to sound rude but how many times do the come back in your tank? even with joe's juice (kalk) aka pickeling lime they will come back unless the are completely removed from the system. speaking from my own experiance ive tryed all the remidies and found that anything in a concentrated dosage applied directly the the aptasia will cause it to disolve but there will allways be a small piece of it left it will grow back in due time. next to drilling them out of the rock and rinsing them off after super glue gell works well to cover them up and killing them and keeping them from returning. just my 2 cents

Its a brand new tank (a week old with live rock from a 2year old system)and i have yet to attack them with anything really since the joes juice i ordered has not arrived yet..i found more because i noticed more on a diffrent piece of live rock so i cant tell you how well it worked.
