Aqua Medic Ecodrift 4.0

guess I was under the wrong assumption, Aquamedics old Wave makers were called the ocean prop and I am certain those were German made and assumed these were as well, thought all Aquamedic products were they are slipping these days I guess, sad, they used to be one of the best manufacturers in the hobby.

Older thread, but I'm setting up a 125g mixed reef. I do have a small Jebao on a 29g, and it has worked well for 2 years.

I'm starting research on the AquaMedic pumps and this thread came up. So after several months of use, how's the pump doing ?

Well up til now they are working great! I have them at 100℅ alternating and even can go without cleaning a while and still keep going. I start and stop them frequently for water changes and never had a restart issue. Only wish I went bigger on the pumps and dial them down. I love flow and 2 max out in my 57 gal.

I'm thinking of getting two of the 8's or 15's for my 125g. Do you think the 15's would be too much, or if I dialed them down they'd be ok ?

I probably would go with 2 15s. I have a fine sand bottom and my 4s don't stir it up. I would think 15s and the ability to dial down is awesome. I have mine situated on the back glass pushing forward. Maybe setting them up opposite each other would give more turbulence.

Ok. I don't want too low of flow, so if I can adjust the 15's down enough, I'd rather do that. Makes more sense than having both underpowered and set at 100%.

Just wanted to drop in and say my Aqua Medics are going strong! No start/stop issues even between lack of cleaning. I've been running them at 100% master/slave and i get great movement in my 57 rimless.

Been using an 8.0 version for a little over a year. Very reliable, no issues. Carefully lining up the rubber gasket on the wet side insures its' silence, with only the slightest up and down "hum" in the pulse mode. Every once in a while I soak it in 50/50 vinegar water.

I know this is an old thread but just wanted to comment on my Christmas present. The Ecodrift 4.1. I just got it set up and i love it. The instructions for the controller are terrible so you have to youtube it. The other ridiculous thing is the 4.1 contoller comes with a light sensor connection that senses when your tank light goes off and it puts the pump into continuous, low flow. After i mounted the controller in my cabinet, I see this little capacitor looking thing in the box. Not knowing what it was i threw it back in the box and proceeded to research how to purchase the light sensor and cord. I found it on AquaMedics sight and low and behold, it was the same thing i threw back in the box. Just without the cord. Seeing that the sensor wires that plug into the controller were roughly .26 gauge, i soldered some cat 5 wire to the sensor and plugged it in, ran the sensor up the back of the tank and taped it to the rim and boom, worked like a charm!! All worth it for the price vs. an MP10+Controller.

Like it or not the jebao pumps are a solid design, they are just made with sub par materials. I have an RW4 that has been cleaned twice and is still going strong after 2 years of consistent service. I know quite a few people have had issues with theirs, but there are a few of us that have had flawless results. For the size these things move a **** load of water and are pretty darn quiet doing it. And on a side note, I've never had to worry about a cracked wet side rusting and killing my corals.
