aqua top heater killed fish

anyone out here in Chicago have an issue with the aqua top heaters malfunctioning and killing Live stock?

Mainly the reason i got a secondary controller. Couldnt risk it. Whats a few hundred for an apex vs a few thousand in livestock.

Can you please add the info about the size of the tank and the wattage of the heater?

What was the final water temperature?

Was this the tank configuration with a single heater?

Sorry to hear. I don't trust any heater by itself. I built a simple controller for like $25 and it keep temps spot on.

Another option is to use two undersized heaters. If a 300W heater is recommended, use two 150W ones. That way if one fails, the change in temperature will be less extreme and you will have more time to correct it. Also make sure you have a easy to read thermometer that you can glance at each time you look at the tank.
