Aquactinics 5x39 Pros : Cons

Well, I must say after reading thru this entire thread (over the last 3 days), that there is a TON of great info for those willing to sort it out.

I've pretty much decided to light my new 58g Oceanic (36x18x21) with the Aquactinic 5x39w fixture. I think it's probably the best bang for my buck. I don't plan on doing a lot with SPS but ya never know what the future holds.

I know the Aquactinic is designed to mount directly onto the aquarium, but I never see anyone discuss the pros/cons of this type of setup. And all the advertising shots of it never show enough of the finer details. (Are You Listening Aquactinic?)

How easy is it to maintain your tank with having to move this thing around every time you want to get in there? It's not like a hanging fixture or a hood where you can easily move the unit out of the way.

Is anyone aware of any other issues I should consider in utilizing this Aquactinic?

And Grim Reefer, thanks for all your effort!! I'm truly amazed at your tenacity to keep answering the same questions over and over, all day long, every day. RC needs to give you a raise bub :)

Guy,

We are always listening. :) In the next few days we should have all the new product shots done including an interactive viewer so that you can get more detail of our products. I'll let you know when it's ready.

Thank you,

I have an aquactinics light and love it. Yeah, it's a PITA to move off the top of the tank to clean etc but there arent many lights that sit on top of the tank that arent. IF, you suspend the lights with cables etc, you are going to have alot of light bleedover into the room which in my case is not acceptable.

Go with the aquactinics light fixture, you wont regret it !

Aquactinics
Thanks Tom. That sounds great! No one in my area carries them and I'm just hesitant about that size of an expenditure without being able to scrutinize them a bit better, if you know what I mean.

Besides, I'm not quite ready for them yet. Maybe in a few more weeks I'll give you a holler.

By the way, looks like I started this thread as a new one instead of posting it in the T5 Q&A. So I'll post it over there for continuity's sake.

I have an aquactinics 5x39 watt hood and I love it as well. It is not that big a deal to move off the tank, it is light and well constructed. I run three middays and two actinic plus (geissman) and it really grows corals well on my 92 corner, including SPS corals. You will not be dissapointed with this fixture.

I also use an Aquactinics (48" T5 fixture). I don't have to move it much, since there are about 3-4" open on either side. I just have to lift it to clean the splash shield.
