It's a bioball chamber.
That is the "dry" part of a wet/dry filter to provide aerobic filtration.
Alot of aquarist reefers remove the bioballs and and rubble rock due to the belief that bioballs become a "nitrate factory" over time.
While that may or may not be true, I have a wet/dry that I've been running for the last couple of years with bioballs and haven't had any problem with nitrates.
(Of course that could just be due to the extra refugium w/ chaeto and mangroves that I've added along with regular water changes.)
Yea your right. That is all that is. I was thinking I could use it as a bubble trap for my refrigum.
I made mine out of a glass 15 gal and I have since broken the baffles. I blame the creator. Hey but it only caused about $30. I have since been looking for a easy way to make a new one. I thought a drop in would be the ticket. Wish I had the skills.
