Aquarium Heater- one or two?

I've been rolling the dice with one heater in my tanks for years on end and have never had any problems. Then again I'm never really away from my tank for any length of time though either. (aside from work) I think I'm more concerned about getting into a horrible car accident on my way to the LFS then I am about frying my tank. Earthquakes are something to worry about too where I'm located at. It's been about 28 years since the Loma Prieta quake hit so were about due. A faulty heater is pretty far down the list.

That logic sounds like a false dichotomy. The fact that risk (x) is minor relative to other risks isn't, by itself, a sufficient reason to dismiss (x). That said, if (x) is coupled with a scarcity of time, energy or other resources, I totally get it.

I too, would recommend two. You are going to have a lot invested and anything you can do to reasonably minimize the risk just makes sense.

I'm in San Diego. I run far smaller heaters than recommended. It doesn't get cold enough here to run 200 watt heater on my 65g. 75 watts works fine.

Run one Heater for smaller tank

defiantly will run 2 heaters once i get a bigger tank in the near future.
