Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Tap Water Filter Good Enough for SPS Tank

i used it for short term and it did ok for me. i attached an in-line ice maker filter to (prefiltering) it, and used Seachem, Prime. REEF-ON!

I used one for a while before getting my RO unit. Everything in my tank looked ok but I found the high level of phosphates in my tank was coming from my tap and making it through that tap water filter. Plus, I was buying new cartridges monthly so I decided to save my money and get a used RO unit. For peace of mind, I'd suggest going straight to an RO/DI for water filtration as chances are you'd end up needing one at some point anyways.

In the long run, that unit becomes much more expensive than an RO/DI because you have to constantly replace the filter media. I used it for about a year with my old 30gallon, but I knew that it wasn't worth it so when I upgraded to a 120, the first thing I got was an RO/DI unit.

You want the highest quality water you can get and that is only going to come from RO/DI filtration. SPS is hard enough without hindering yourself with lower quality water.

Thanks all for your information. I just bought an Aqua Medic RO EasyLine which will generate 90 litre of RO water per day. I will buy a tap water filter as DI and tap it to the output of RO unit shortly.
