Aquarium safe silicone?

Does anyone know if HD or Lowes sell a clear silicone that is aquarium safe? If you know the brand, that would be extra helpful. I just need a little to seal something and don't feel like paying $8 for a small tube. Thanks.

i used DAP...

You can't use the kinds that have anti-bacterial chemicals in them. That's anything for the kitchen or bathroom, tub & tile, etc.

I'm not sure if any of them don't have the chemicals in them -- but you can get the aquarium silicone from Lowes for much cheaper than the LFS.

you can use GE I or GE II. I have used GE II all the time but its always the outdoor stuff for windows and doors. They also have it in black. Just make sure is the outdoors stuff for windows and doors.

Same stuff in the teal package you see at the LFS, etc... DAP brand, I think. It's about $4 at the hardware store.

Thanks Mario and Nicole. I'll check out the local HD and Lowes and see which one to get. I guess if any one of them actually says it's for aquarium use, then problem solved

i run a day care out of my house, so technically i have 12 kids .. but they do go home at night and they are not infants that ill leave to parents....

Kenny Ive built my sumps and fixed peoples tanks with GE Silicone II Window and Door Clear Silicone. Not one problem easy, fast, and its good to go the next day.


Get it in a caulk gun for easy appliance. Its in a blue long bottle for liek 3 bux at HD.
