Aquascaping leaning on the back glass pics, need your help

I am thinking about redoing my aquascaping yet again lol Right now it is not touching any glass, not even the back. But i'm thinking if i use the back glass i might have better placement for corals and more stabilty, plus it would make the tank look a little bigger in the front and i would have more room for clames ect. I really don't want a "wall of rock" look, so can you great people give me some ideas? Oh and are they and cons to having the rocks leaning on the back glass?

I have leaned my rock on the back glass in most all of my tanks after seeing a 180 that has been set up for 10 years with as you put it (a wall of rock) with all 250 pounds leaning on the back glass.

You can lean a few large pieces against the back and then lean the rest on those. Or you can make archways between the big pieces leaned on the back.

Random thought: They should have an aquascaping show on the home and garden channel.

I'm starting fresh to eliminate hich hickers so you can see my pre planed rock work. yea its a large nano. but any ways thee thing Im the best at is aqua scaping. its best to plan for the corals you want to keep. try to find med size flat rocks to make tables, get your self some mason drill bits and drill holes or divetts to place corrals in. on the rock work in my tank i drilled holes and used fiberglass rod to pegthem to gether but Im useing bacerock and Im going to cure it my self. Its going to take a long time to cure but well worth in in the long run.

if needed you can also cut rocks in the shape and size you want them.
takes a long time and energy but if the rock dosent fit. it works. make shure that the side you cut will be facing the back of the tank because the cuts look ulgy.

The bad thing about having rocks leaning on the back of the glass is dead spots and poor circulation. The way I did mine was the foundation rocks are about 2 inches from the back but the middle and top rocks lean up against the back glass. But to try and compensate for dead spots I put a weak power head middle level under the surface skimmer in the left corner. It pushes about 60 gph. So far so good.

You make a good point. I storm up back behind the rocks with a baster right before my water changes since I don't want the extra heat of another pump in my already overheating NC12 :)

I think we should have our own show... anybody want to host "Tanks for the Memories"?
