Aquatop canister

I was wondering if anyone has used this filter, I have a fluval 405 on my tank and have had issues with it. I started with a 305 it crashed then bought the 405 and had it replaced while under warranty. The shaft broke this morning. So I'm looking for a different canister filter. :headwally:

These are great canisters for the price. I've had the SunSun 302 (same as aquatop) on my 25g fw planted for two years now. It still runs like a champ.

Personally I would look into adding a good skimmer if you dont already have one. Canister filters IMO are only good for polishing the water with filter floss, carbon ect. They should not be relied on as the primary filtration on a marine tank or reef tank. A good skimmer live rock and flow will be the best filtration you can get. Adding a sump is a very very good idea as well. JMO. Canister filters are great for fresh water but in reef tanks and FOWLR they become nitrate factories.

I, like yourself have run canisters, and depending on what you are putting in them, they can be good or bad. For chemical or supplemental biological, they are useful, but for the price you are paying, yes, you could set up a fuge and have much more versatility and filtering power, but it depends on personal preference as whether it's floss, sponge or filter socks, they are all"potential"nitrate factories if husbandry is poor with the mechanical part.

If your set on canisters,I would stay with Fluval and look at a fx5, add that is a great canister that is worth every penny!

But it is personal preference. I would also look at Ats systems as they are cheap to set up and work very, very well for nutrient absorption and food supply for your tank.

As for skimmers, my choice and recommendation would be aqua C and their spray injection which has to be seen to be believed. I have had Becket, needle wheel, venturi, air and I have never had a series/type of skimmers that produce what they do, by far!

But once again, if your sticking with canisters,FX all the way!

I'm limited on space for a sump, since I didn't plan on one when I built my stand. I have a reef octopus bh 1000, don't plan on changing that. As I stated earlier I was considering the aqua top since I have been through 3 fluval filters . But due to funds I got another fluval. I use phosban and opticarb and biomax
