aquatraders phone call

i thought this might interest some...as im sure most of you have looked at their lighting fixtures and raised an eyeborow.

im looking for lighting for a 30" long tank (29Gal)
and have been reading and reading about light that im SICK of it.

having a 30" long tank is very restricting to what you can have on it as light.

i know the stories about the aquatraders/odyssea/hombby lights being ****and all some even saying they caught fire.

ive also read that many have set up the fixtures wrong causing them to become very hot pottentially hazardous.

i know they arent and will NEVER compare to the expensive lighting systems out there.

This thread is adressed towards the customer service of aquatraders however...which many have stated is horrible.

well im free today and bored so i gave them a call.

someone answered right away no waiting no menus no anything.
the guy was asian but spoke very good english.

i had asked him that i was looking at their 30" MH/PC fixtures online and i was wondering if they are refurbed or new and if i placed an order the last day of the month would i still get free shipping.

the guy was very polite and said yes. free shiping to the last day of the month and the lights listed on the website are all new and nore refurbished or returned in any way.

he also said the returned /repaired/ refurbed lights are sold in the store only and if i were willing i could come look at them as they sell cheaper not being new and all.

i am STILL deciding my mind isnt set yet but i wanted to post this since i figured it would be interesting for some of you who have ever wondered.

thank you for reading and i hope you found this somewhat interesting.

alex.

just like a LFS they do anything to get you to make a purchase but after you do they don't care

but serriously, I am glad you got a hold of them and they are willing to work with you and such. I actually bought a light from them a few years ago. after a month the fans stopped working and the ballasts went out. I couldn't for the life of me get any answer from them when e-mailed or called.

looks like they may have changed, and that is good for others.

also I still really don't care for their bulbs they use.

i called them again...i keep reading..and im still sick of it...

i realised i forgot to ask about the ballasts.

EVERYONES DEBATING on wether the old or new are magnetic or electric and saying the old ones were fire causing and the new ones arent...well....i called them again...same dude answered after 3 rings and he answered my question. :)

i had a odyssea mh a few years ago and the fan quit working also well 1 of the fans because it had 2.

that seems to be the MOST common problem with them ive read on every piece of thread i found...

apparently a few have had luck with the fans others havent.

somoene said you can take the fixture and ballast to a computer store and they can hook you up with good performant quiet fans that wont die out.

one guy reported a fire with his...he also said that he COMPLEETLY bypassed the ballast plugging the metal halides straight into the wall.

WHO DOES THAT?

After replacing fan, bulbs, and the ballast to get it to perform is it really worth screwing with?
