AquaUV sterilizer question

Hey. I got an AquaUV sterilizer with a wiper feature. Does anybody know why the wiper rod is made out of stainless steel!??? I thought this was very odd. I asked the manufacturer but were not able to help me much. I cannot help but to think that this is not a good thing for a reef tank. However I've been using it for several months with no problems at all.

I ended up taking mine out because of that. The stainless steel I'm sure was required for rigidity. Also keep in mind the unit was designed for freshwater use. FWIW I intentially didn't "wipe" mine for a couple of months and there was not any buildup.

mine leaked after 4 weeks from the wiper connection. Too much kalk made it tough to wipe anyway

Fishdoc11. Yes that's what I did as well. Took mine out... I got I bit suspicious of the metal in my water. To be honest I don't think I really need this toy.

Harlequinreef. That's exactly what happened to mine recently. It's started leaking from the wiper connection. My glass envelop also suffered heavy build up from the kalk even when wiping the unit every 4 days or so.
