Aqueon evolve systems

Hey I was wondering if the lighting on these systems would be enough to house lower light corals like mushrooms or zoas?

Hi, I have the Aqueon evolve 8 and I used the stock lights to house mushrooms, zoas, Kenya tree, green star polyps and xenia. I believe the stock lights would be fine for all of these corals, but I upgraded to stronger LEDs just because I wanted to feel secure about putting other corals in the tank... but yea I did fine with the stock light for a while with those corals

what I meant by "I did fine with the stock light for a while with those corals" is that all the corals were fine under the stock light, but were better when I upgraded... IMO you should have no problem housing the corals you mentioned with the stock light. Hope this helped!

I have the Evolve 4 kicking around that I was considering turning to saltwater. Do you guys suggest any special filtering setup or is stock filter with weekly water changes the best way to go?

In my opinion I would just run rubble rock with cheoto in the chamber. Although even just with the cartridge I think you would do fine as long as you stay on top of your water changes.

I have an Evolve 8 that's been running for about 30 days now. I did change the lighting to a custom LED setup and I added an AC50 modded to be a mini fuge with chaeto in it. It's got a 10w submersable bulb in it (and the chaeto is doing great).

I left the filter in place, and run phosguard in front of the filter. The AC50's intake tube sits in the filter side of the Evolve, behind the filter pad.

I need to update my thread, but here's a link to what my startup was: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2210828

It's a good little tank (IMO), but it makes me want to get a bigger one! :lol2:

I have the 8g and has been up for about 2 weeks. No cycling because I used water from my other systems to fill this lil guy. I'll post some pics tonight or tomorrow.

Where did you get the 10w submersable bulb?

Thanks
