Are Bi-colored angels coral nippers?

Almost EVERY angel has the potential to nip... And there is always someone that has any angel that will tell you that theirs does not nip. So it is really hit or miss... the pygme angels are the most safe though.

Bi-colors tend NOT to be Reef Safe. In fact, other than Lemonpeels, they are the worst nippers of all Centropyge.
Aside from that ( I own one, BTW) they are notoriously hard to keep, mostly because of Cyanide & drug use in their collection. At one time, people said they were IMPOSSIBLE to keep alive longer than a week or two. That has changed, but they are viewed as an angel for an expert. Ie, this is my second one. The first did well about two weeks, then stopped eating & died. This one is thriving, and at present I have mostly mushrooms in my tank, which it doesn't eat ( Darn!! Darn!!).
If you have the experience, go for it, but it will pick at corals in all likelyhood. Of course, if you have toxic softies, you should be OK.

Sincerely,
Matthew

I have a bicolor for one and one half years now. He nips at zoanthids, but leaves fungia, favites, platygygra, ricordia and other mushrooms alone. He was the only survivor of an LFS shipment of twenty! But he is doing very well, and growing bigger. I feed a mixture of mysis shrimp, prepackaged "angel frozen food", red and green seaweed, flake food with spirulina, and add selcon and garlic (just a bit). Fed twice per day, with a large skimmer.

I may have been lucky, but he seems quite healthy! Beautiful fish!

Bruce,

Glad you got a good one! They are a very elegant dwarf angel that reminds me more of the large angels. Just have an almost majestic air about them..
Its so sad the healthy ones are hard to find!

Mine had a taste for my open brain and I wouldn't trust him with clams, but he did fine with softies, sps and the rest of my LPS. I've heard otherwise. I ended up giving him to my dad because I wanted to put my open brain back in the display and keep clams in the future

Trachyphyllia=Angel candy to almost ALL angels! LOL

Matthew
But my Cherub never bothered mine, it bought it after my skimmer died the 2nd time I moved the tank.
