Are my Crocea Clams getting enough light? [IMGS]

I recently picked up two 3" Crocea clams. I've placed them on the bottom of my 90 gallon tank, which is 24" deep.

My lights are 2x 250w XM 20K bulbs, running on IceCap Ballasts.

I ask because I know the "par" is lower than typical 10K bulbs of the same wattage.

Here are the two newest additions.

****As you can see, I put them on a nice flat piece of rock. Is this OK?****

you might want to mve them up higher in the tank if they start to get alittle brown, but for now they seem to be fine. They prefer to be on rocks just like you have them, nice clams by the way.

I have mine on my faux sunbstrate. Tha tank is 24" deep and the crocea is say 30" from my 400 watt MH's.. Do you think I need to put it on the rocks also and move it up a bit? I looks great but has only been a couple days...

Peace and TY, Jeff

Sorry to hijack...

Just a thought about the red foot moon snail. He probably will not be very long lived in your system due to being a cooler water species.

I think it will be ok, beautyfull blue one at that....just keep a eye out watch the mantle, and its closeing reflex...when a fish spooks it or you do so...if you suspect its in trouble then move it up a bit in the rock work...But that was a great question I often wondered the same thing....

Anthony,

I have a question about your picture, which is very nice, and your tank. I have the same 2x 250w XM 20K bulbs, running on IceCap Ballasts., as you do, but my tank is much more blue than your pics.

Are the colors in your picture to life or is the white balance being adjusted to make the light look more white?

Looking at it again, maybe you used a flash?

The pictures look great but I did notice that they are not opened like a Tridacna crocea should. If they were not getting enough light they would extend there mantles way out, reaching for more light.

One reason why a clam will not fully open is that sometimes they received some water movement they do not like. Just my observation.

;)
