Are picasso triggers safe for coral?

I don't have any cleanup crew, just corals, mostly LPS and softies. I have seen them in SPS systems, but I don't know if they will bother LPS and softies anyone have any experience or currently keeping them?

absolutely not reefsafe will munch any kind of coral in their tank-adults are really mean to tankmates.

Great question!

I love these fish (and more importantly, so does my wife :)), and typically keep reef tanks (not FOWLR)... always wanting to take the risk.

Most people I've talked to or seen tanks with these fish have relatively large tanks with mainly SPS, and get them as juveniles... and they seem to behave pretty well. I think the danger is when they get older and more territorial (causing havoc on tankmates).

But to answer your question, I don't think corals are one of the things in their diet, but rather their aggression and/or tendency to move LR around is what causes many people to avoid putting them in their reef-tanks.

Picasso triggers can be quite aggressive. Any invert will be a snack. They'll shred anemones and may damage corals out of curiosity (very active and curious fish, no hands, so teeth are used instead!). Really not a fish for a reef unless you have a very large tank and are willing to risk possible losses.

I have one that is about 6 inches. i ahve had him forever. He has never bothered any fish in my big tank, but whne I had a smaller one he was aggressive. I'm not worried about him attacking tankmates, because all my fish are pretty much bigger than him, I am just worried about the coral. I am also about him just tasting them because they are moviing. Haha I don't know what to do because I love this fish and want him in my big tank, but I also love my coral!

I would look into blue throat triggers if you want a reef safe trigger. I have a pair(well a male and a female who pay each other no mind) and they get along great with everyone and leave the coral alone.
