are there differences between fire an purple gobies?

The only difference I've noticed is that around here the purples are more expensive. but that's just a quick observation, and I know you are wanting more maybe biological differences. I'd like to know also, and if I can get a purple one and keep it with my regular fire.

They are two different species. The usual firefish is Nemateleotris magnifica, while the purple firefish is N. decora. N. decora is collected from deeper water than the other and tends to be a bit more aggressive between conspecifics and congeners. However, N. decora is a bit shyer than its cousin, especially in brightly lighted tanks.
