Are there such thing as a 40" or 45" tanks?

I need to make a new sump but I have braces on the corners of my stand that make it impossible to slip a 48" tank under there. B4 I start customing anything I wanna see if there are tanks that are over 40" and under 48" out there.

If you are willing to pa for a new tank, check with All World Marine. THe can make one with your exact dimensions, but it wont be too cheap.

I have a 36" tank now... I have my drain going directly into my skimmer.. The problem is , if my skimmer pump is off, I end up getting an overflow in the display. I have 2 option at the moment. Redo my current sump and add some bulkheads and plumb my skimmer externally to the sump or I can just throw the whole thing into a new sump. Just exploring options.

I only need it for a sump, not about to give up an arm and a leg for it.

how come it's overflow the display?? I don't get it..

My 1.5" drain is Teed out and reduced to 3/4" one going into the fuge and one going into the skimmer pump sitting outside of the sump. Both ends have gate valves. In order to maximize flow to the Ocean Runner pump for the skimmer and reducing the flow in the fuge, I have to close the gate valve slowly and tuning it slowly to eliminate any microbubbles traveling through the side that goes to the skimmer. I'm able to do this because I have clear tubings on that side. Given that the gate valve on the fuge side is closed 3/4 of the way and even if the skimmer gate valve is wide open, the directly water travels through pump then traveling back up into the skimmer around all the chamber and then up again into the sump, w/o the help of the OR pump running water doesn't drain fast enough hence water trapped in the drain and overflow back up if I forget to turn on the skimmer.

Do you understand the information or would like a demonstration? :mixed:

How about drilling siphon holes in the return line.

The issue is not having an overflow sump, I have an over flowing display because water is not draining fast enough if I forget to turn on the skimmer pump or if it gets stuck.

can you reconfigure the sump to something like this??

I've considered Elite's setup b4, however, there's a flaw in that design. The return from the skimmer is going back into the suction chamber of the skimmer. So basically you're-skimming the same water that you had just skimmed. I want to each suction chamber to only receive fresh water from the display and anything that's being pumped back to the tank from skimmer and fuge goes directly into the return chamber. This way I can skim/filter maximize the volume of water being filtered and skimmed.

Here's how it is now.

This is my new idea for the setup.

You might have micro bubbles with that design. :)

Not at all. Here's what I found out about the EV skimmers, as long as the return pipe coming from the skimmer is below the water level as seen in picture, there is absolutely zero micro bubbles. Look in the picture, there isn't any.

The skimmer does not work to it's full capacity with that design. I've done something similar before when I had a different skimmer.

Which one is "that design", we have 3 design showing in this thread... Elites, my old one and my new. :)

the picture is just a sketch, THis is exactly how my skimmer sits at the moment. It's actually right next to the sump. I drew it that way so you can see the the pump for the skimmer sit outside of the sump. I have the skimmer sitting on a pedestal with the pump sitting right below it. THe only difference in the new design is that I will have a bulkhead to the third chamber where one of the drain will drain directly into the sump then sucked into the pump. Ditto with the return chamber where a bulkhead will be placed for the return pump instead of sitting inside the sump. I wanna minimize any heat that comes from the pumps. I noticed that my tank runs a few degrees cooler now with all of my pumps running external and I would like to keep all pumps external when possible.

All those pumps you see in the sump now is a pump for the chiller (mag 5) and a small Rio 800 (will be replaced with a MJ 800) for the calcium reactor. HTH
