are these rocks reef safe?

i got a few of these a few years ago for my cichlid tanks and was wondering if anybody knows anything about them. they are white and orange. i am not concerned with keeping them in the tank and keeping them looking nice and white. i think some corraline algae would look cool on them. i would be using them either as some base rock or in a FO tank for decor. i bought them at petco/petsmart. not sure they still carry them. they seem to be made of some kind of sandstone. it doesnt crumble or rub off like "real" sandstone i find in "the wild" here in Colorado.

In small amount. The pourus reef rock is best for POD and worms. But this would make a great center piece.

i cant be sure what that rock is .........without knowing exactly what its mineral composition is i would not use it! when u have issues as we all will and do ...eliminating the rock as a cause is beneficial. so if u cant be positive about the rock being ok i would not use it! and without knowing what the rock is minerally made from it could be an issue. unwanted minerals leaching from this rock is the potential problem. as this leaching will lead to problems such as a crash or ph issues or algae issues or ect

if u can find out exactly what the mineral composition is of the rock and there after deem it safe i would then and only then use it

thanks reefd, but that is why i am posting on here. i dont want to put it in my tank if i dont know what it is. i am hoping that somebody here has these rocks or knows something about them. i am not using them until i know for sure. thanks.

I also do not think the rock would give you the "reef look." I have over 400 dives and have never seen anything like that in ocean... If you like the holes in the rock, get a large piece of base rock (coral) and drill the holes you want with a 1 inch drill bit.

You just jogged my memory, these are a type of sand stone. Given their high compression, they should hold up in your tank, but using them for the right look is your call. If you were closer, I would just send you some dead coral peices I have from St. Thomas. They have similar holes in them.
