Ok, so i was looking in my tank today....just checking on everybody, and on my Blue Tenius i saw about 15-20 little dots.... I cant tell if they are red or not.... but they are moving, and they are very small, but does this sound like red bugs? They are only on the one coral, and it still has good PE and has not lost color... I does kind of look like there might be some lighter tissue around where i saw them.....i am so frustrated.....

So, what i need is some information.... i need to know, how much interceptor i need to treat the entire tank (47 gallon plus 10 gallon sump), i need to know the method for treating(i.e. time frame, skimmer on or off, running any carbon etc.).... i basically need to know the how to on how to get rid of these little bastards..... PLEASE HELP!!!

okay, i am confused on a couple of things....

1.) I am very confused about dosage...could someone please explain it to me?
2.) For carbon, do you just run as much as you can after the first six hours or do you run the recommended amount for your tank?
3.) Is it neccessary to repeat the treatment twice?
4.) do you need to try to syphon the dead bugs out after the treatment?

thanks....

1 tablet will treat about 300 gallons...no need to siphon out the dead. youll never see them anyway. run whatever carbon you want... cant hurt.
dont freak too much... the red bugs are no where near as destructive as flatworms.. but your corals will be happier without them.

how precise does the measurement need to be? i mean as far calculating total water volume and then weighing the dose accordingly? if i over shoot a little am i going to cause havock in my tank? and also, since i just noticed the bugs today, do i have any particular time frame that i have to start dosing by? What i mean is, am i going to start seeing my corals' health decline rapidly?

the health might decline rapidly, it depends on the type of red bugs. if you overshoot a little bit the only thing that will be affected is the higher level crustaceans such as cleaner shrimp and crabs but then agian they might die anyways. run as much carbon as you can to help remove the chemical. i did it and havent seen them in about 4 months.

nemo...I noticed you are in South Carolina. We are in SC also. If you need some interceptor I have a little I could give to you. I can help with the treatment also...

A myth IMO and IME.....Your corals aren't going to die in the next week or so if you don't treat. Heck they may never die but some other change may trigger an rtn and someone will blam it on red bugs..

Also I didn't know there were different types of redbugs??????

Also when it is time to treat don't worry about getting the dose exactly right . As long as you have the right amount or more you will be fine . I have put some corals thru high doses with no problems ever.

And now that you've treated for red bugs your sure to get AEFW;)

just curious, do the red bugs cause kind of "splotchy" discolorations on the corals? I can see on a few places where the tissue looks lighter than other areas......

Snails and clams will be fine. Redbugs can cause little discolorations. Crustaceans are what the interceptor affects.

Yes, you want to take snails out, but you don't have to take tridacna clam out. I did interceptor treatment without removing crocea & derasa, and they're fine.

search is down for me atm...

are snails and clams considered inverts?

Are they effected by Interceptor treatments?

i have the tiny pyramidal parasitic snails that attack my cleanup crew snails (trochus/astra/ceriths)

But these pyramidla snails leave my clams alone...

I'm wondering if interceptor kill off all my snails so i can repopulate my tank with cleanup crew snails without the fear of the parasitic snails again

These are red bugs
