asm g3 today really black in the collection cup

Almost look like black slime. It is charcoal black any ideas of what this can be? I put a canister filter a week ago with carbon but this happened today.

I dont know if this is possible but I think it is the charcoal in the filter? It looks like that. The bubbles in the skimmer have a black tint to it. I just change out the filter to the carbon out put in a polyfilter sponge. Does anyone have any ideas?

Is it just on the neak or is it in the cup. I have a G-3 also, when I use carbon I get a black slime on the neak of my cup, but not in the cup.

I assume that it is most likely the fine, dusty particles that are coming from the carbon, causing the black skimmate. A thorough rinsing should limit the problem.

Could your carbon be getting pulverized and then escaping only to be pulled out by the skimmer?

Skimmers will pull out carbon dust. Thats probably what it is. I've had it happen, but it was the day after changing carbon (and obviously not rinsing well enough.)
