ASM G4 Skimmer Question

I'm sure some people out there have this skimmer. Mine has been working great (6 years and cranking now!), but I noticed something wasn't right? When I would stop and start it to pull the collection cup out and empty it, than when I would go back to starting it I would have to pull the pump completely out of the sump to get it to kick on. So, I purchased a new impeller and installed it. Great, the pump fires right up correctly now but the skim doesn't seem to be as good? I have to raise the height up the pipe way up to get it to skim and never had to do this before (the pipe is parallel to the half way up the cup and I have never had it that far up?). I can take pictures tonight and post them, but maybe someone can tell me what I'm doing incorrectly or if I'm missing something. Help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe it just takes a few days with a new impellor, but I'm sure that isn't the case. I almost want to go back to my old impeller?

I'd personally give it a few days before panicking. I'm assuming the new impeller will need time to break in. Then again, I had a G1X that was meshmodded.

I have the same problems if I stop my pump om my ASM.
I am sure I have a different pump though. I will generally leave
the pump running while I clean the cup. You can do this by
lowering the tube height.
As to the skim with the new pump. You could have had a needle
wheel, or ordered a needle wheel.
I had a needle wheel on mine, and did'nt get good results, so
I am using a standard impeller.
If it's not skimming I would either go back, or get it figured out.
If you do go back, just cean up the impeller real good, and it
should help with the start up.
One more thing is to make sure that your venturi is'nt clogged.
You can blow down the air tube to make sure it's not blocked.
