hi are you suppose to turn off your skimmer when empty your collection cup?

I never do. I take the collection cup to the sink and wash it out and scrape it clean with the fingers of a rubber glove. Then I swab the neck of the skimmer with a paper towel and put the cup back on.

I always turn my skimmer off during cleaning and run the air hose through a cup of ro/di water to get any salt creep that may be lurking inside the hose to avoid and clogging

Only takes a couple minutes to clean it. Leave mine running.
