Asterina Damage Photo

This is what Asterina starfish do to coralline algae. When I see these white dots on my coralline I look for starfish and there is always one there. Now they are getting tinier though with my aggressive searches. If you look into the green circle I made, you will see a tiny small 'n' shaped starfish. This is the one eating the coralline algae.

i have some asternia but never see them off the glass. i have no disapation in my coraline at all. can it be that when they run out of food they go for the coraline? mine seem to pose no threat at all and like russ shows above mine dont move to far. i can probally go to my aquarium right now and show you the same ones that stay in the same spots. but im by far a pro. i kinda like em. im weird though, everytime i find an aptasia i put it in my refuge. they make my skimmer alot happier, it dont have to work as hard being the aptasia eats excess nutrients out of the water.

I would love to hear a debate on sand beds... Maybe I'll be a turd and start a thread for it someday :)

Hehe - yeah, that's the sort of debate I'm talking about. I am sure we can dredge up some other good flame war material....... :) :) :) :) :)

I will settle the BB vs DSB debate and since I started the thread I am allowed to mess with it.

Solution, Charlie (VCoo71) had incredible corals with his DSB. He went to a BB and had nothing but POOP! Now he has a DSB (ok not too deep but it is a SB) and he has beautiful corals again. SOLVED.

Now Asterina, as people have seen a photo of the damage they do to coralline, they will see it more in their tanks and realize most of them do mess with our tanks.

A thread for sand beds does need to be started because on several occasions I have been reading about ...umm, let's say there could have been a thread where someone's trying to sell his system. In about the 3rd page there is nothing being said except this debate over sandbeds. Or a thread on where's a good place to buy glass tops... Does glass tops have ANYTHING to do with sand beds? Nope.. So since I know some people are itching to get into this debate (Thompson), why not just start a thread? :) I know I would read it! And then the debate is happening in an appropriate place, and not on someone else's thread.
