asternia stars

hi! i just did some research, thru this site, thanks to you all, btw!
anyway, found out i have 2 ( that i know of) small asternia stars, i have only seen them cruising around on the live rock only, i'm assuming they are eating the same things the snails are, but here is my question, is it possible for these things to be nasty, some of the things i have read say yes and others no!?!?!?!?
i would appreciate your help!

Yes. Some are known to eat corals. The vast majority though seem content to graze on algae or bacteria. The problem is that there is no good way to tell the difference between the two groups by looking at them.
