ATO Question

I have an ATO with a Reef Angel connection, but I will be switching to an Apex soon. Can I just cut the connector off of the RA plug and connect the wires to a breakout box similar to the DIY bare wire connector?

Absolutely!

You can also wire it to a mini-din 8 cable and plug into the I/O port. The wires to use for that would be brown and black on the mini-din cord.
